A picture is worth a thousand words… In this case, old photographs of Palmyra are giving us a rare window to the past; showing us the beauty, historical value and archaeological significance that this city once represented.
“These photographs represent rare primary documents of a region and World Heritage Site in crisis, preserving the memory of its ancient monuments and natural beauty for posterity,” says the Getty Research Institute’s (GRI) curator of photography Frances Terpak.
